Dairy Queen for Good Dogs

Eating Dairy Queen cones - Lobo, the red husky, takes his slow

Do your dogs whine, bark, twist in the seat, or stomp on you as you drive past a Dairy Queen red roof? Ours have learned what the local soft-serve stand - including the distinctive red roof - looks like. And, they expect to stop for a treat!

This local DQ give out free drippings, about 4 ounces of ice cream in a plastic cup, for dogs. However, our two spoiled pouches expect to eat the container when the cold, yummy vanilla ice cream has been licked and chomped - thus we purchase cones.

At Dairy Queen - Willy, the shepherd / husky mix, wants to eat her cone in just three bites

The alpha dog - our husky / german shepherd mix - used to eat her cone at a reasonable pace. With the advent of her doggie competitor, she began to wolf down the cone in about three big bites. You'd be in danger of missing fingers when she got to the cone (not really - but the fingers might hurt) because of her hurry to finish. My husband (aka "the guy") now pulls her cone back as she licks and bites the ice cream to slow her down. He can get the two dogs to finish more or less at the same time. As you can see from the picture at right, she's ahead on this day.

We also are quite memorable, I guess, when we visit our local DQ. People want to come and watch these gorgeous dogs enjoy their ice cream, and ask to pet them when they are done with the treat. That's an important point - always ask an owner first about approaching and touching a strange animal. Our mixed dog is very friendly, and eager to be pet. The husky, as a rehabilitation in process rescue dog, is still a bit shy.

Get out and enjoy the warmer weather, and treat the dogs!

First I just wanted to say thanks for your site. It has been very helpful in more ways then you will never know. I was a mom of 4 babies( two children and two dogs ) My doggie babies passed away on April 2 of this year. You talk about the DQ thing and I just had to tell Anja ( my oldest child.). Right after we got the dogs anja was eatting ice cream and the dogs were just sitting really nicely infront of her just watching her eat so I gave them some and after that anytime anyone ate ice cream or if we stoped at DQ with them they just had to have some. they to made holes in my yard and loved to run and go on walks. Anja ( soon to be 3) loved to walk them too and she's only 35 lb and my boy, Bear, was alittle over 100 lbs. I was the pack leader and Anja was right under me and then there was Logan(15mons) he would lay right on them or want to get in their doggie bad with them and they would let him. My dogs were so good that I could push Logan in the stroller and he could have the lesh and they wouldn't do anything. they were the best and we miss them so much. Anja still wakes up crying for her dogs. Your site helped remeber the good time with them and not just their passing she loved looking at the pics and seeing them playing in the snow. theres a lot of things that they do thats the same as Bear and Kita ( My Boy and Girl ). If I was never to get a new dog it would be a huskie or a huskie mix... I was told that my pups were german shepherd/huskie but they weren't to sure but when I seen my Vet he said that he thinks them to be huskie/Lab (Black).

Thanks for everything
Lauren and Anja

Hi we have 5 huskies and 1 malamute, i was reading about the trouble that you had with one of yours having diarrhea we had the same problem with one of ours, so we done alot of research on the raw diet and have now changed them onto that and what a difference it has made. So now their diet consist's of fresh raw chicken carcass, raw fish, plus other bones and a handful of kibble, it has made so much difference to them that we even wean our pups on a similar diet, i hope this might be helpfull to someone, leanne in uk.
